Bond type questions
How do I know which bond I need?
The obligee, such as the licensing board or project owner, tells you the bond type, amount and often the exact form.
Can I use one bond for two licenses?
Usually not. Each obligee normally requires its own bond.
Is a performance bond the same as insurance?
No. It guarantees the contractor's performance to the owner. If the surety pays, it expects the contractor to repay.
Does a broker bond cover cargo damage?
No. It secures the broker's payment obligations, not freight loss. Cargo exposure is handled by insurance.
Does the estate pay the probate bond premium?
Often the premium can be paid from estate funds as an administration expense, subject to court rules. Confirm with the attorney handling the estate.
