Why request your Surety Bond quote here
Requirement checked first
Bond names and amounts differ by state and agency. A surety agent confirms the exact form and penalty amount the obligee expects before you pay anything.
Premium is a fraction of the bond
You pay an annual premium, often a small percentage of the bond amount for applicants with good credit, rather than the full bond amount.
Options for challenged credit
Some surety markets write applicants with limited or lower credit at a higher rate. Share your situation and the agent can explain what is available.
Delivery the obligee accepts
Many bonds can be issued electronically or with a signed original mailed to the agency, depending on what the obligee requires.

Agent confirms and quotes
A licensed surety agent verifies the form, reviews underwriting needs such as a credit check, and quotes the premium.

Sign the indemnity agreement and application, pay the premium, and file the bond with the obligee.
How surety bonds work
A surety bond is a three-party agreement. The principal is the business or person who must be bonded, the obligee is the government agency or project owner that requires the bond, and the surety is the company that guarantees the principal will meet its obligations. If the principal fails to follow the licensing law or contract and a valid claim is paid, the surety can seek repayment from the principal under the indemnity agreement.
That is the main difference between a bond and an insurance policy. Insurance protects the policyholder, while a bond protects the obligee and the public. Bond premium is based on the bond type, the bond amount and the principal's financial strength, often reflected in personal credit for smaller commercial bonds, and larger contract bonds may also require financial statements.
Some of the most commonly requested bonds are contractor license bonds, auto dealer bonds, the $75,000 BMC-84 freight broker bond required for property broker authority, and court bonds such as administrator or guardianship bonds. Each has its own form and filing rules.

Surety Bond FAQ
How much does a surety bond cost?
The premium is usually a percentage of the bond amount and depends on the bond type, the amount and the applicant's credit and finances. A licensed surety agent will quote your actual premium after reviewing the application.
Is a surety bond the same as insurance?
No. A bond guarantees your obligations to a third party. If the surety pays a valid claim, you are generally required to reimburse it. Insurance, by contrast, pays covered losses on your behalf.
What is a BMC-84 bond?
It is the $75,000 surety bond that freight brokers file with FMCSA to obtain and keep broker authority. Brokers may alternatively use a BMC-85 trust fund agreement.
Can I get bonded with bad credit?
Often yes, depending on the bond type and amount. Some markets specialize in lower-credit applicants, typically at a higher premium rate or with collateral for larger bonds.
How long does a bond last?
Most license and permit bonds run for one year and renew annually, or follow the license term. Contract bonds run for the life of the project and warranty period.
Is there any charge to request a quote?
No. Requesting a quote is free and without obligation. Bonds are quoted by licensed surety agents and partners, and the surety company makes the final underwriting decision.
